Spring Intensive with Paul Kay

Join us in welcoming back Paul Kay for another exciting 3-Day Spring Intensive!
Paul Kay was born in Oxford and began his ballet training with Gaynor Walters in Devon before continuing his studies at The Royal Ballet School. At his 2003 graduation, he performed the Flower Festival at Genzano pas de deux. During his training, he won medals at both the Adeline Genée and the Roseta Mauri Dance Competitions.
Upon graduating, Kay joined The Royal Ballet and was promoted to Soloist in 2008.
Over his 19-year career with the company, he performed principal and soloist roles across a wide range of repertoire, including Hans Peter and the Nutcracker in The Nutcracker, the Bronze Idol in La Bayadère, Kolia in A Month in the Country, the Jester in Cinderella, the Blue Boy in Les Patineurs, Gurn in La Sylphide, Frantz in Coppélia, Aminta in Sylvia, the Neapolitan in Swan Lake, as well as roles in Rubies from Jewels, Scènes de Ballet, Dances at a Gathering, The Concert, The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, Napoli, and Chroma.
Kay also created original roles in works by leading choreographers, including Wayne McGregor’s Infra, Woolf Works, and The Dante Project; Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Winter’s Tale, and DGV: Danse à grande vitesse; as well as works by Crystal Pite, Hofesh Shechter, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Cathy Marston. His contributions to dance earned him a nomination for Emerging Male Artist (Classical) at the Critics’ Circle National
Dance Awards.
He completed his professional teacher training through The Royal Ballet School’s Professional Dancers’ Teaching Course (PDTC) and received the Benesh Notation Award from the Royal Academy of Dance. Expanding his expertise in arts management, he worked with The Royal Ballet to stage and teach productions such as Giselle, The Nutcracker, and Manon. He has also served as a guest teacher for numerous vocational training programs, led international masterclasses, and adjudicated major dance competitions worldwide.
Kay is currently Head of Intensive Courses and Talent Identification at The Royal Ballet School, where he also teaches regularly.
