Alex Manning is a former professional dancer with Miami City Ballet. He received his foundational training at the internationally renowned Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) under the direction of the late Marcia Dale Weary, who personally mentored him in her distinguished pedagogical approach. During his time at CPYB, Alex also trained with Darla Hoover and studied privately with László Berdo.
In 2013, Alex was invited by Lourdes Lopez to join Miami City Ballet, where he performed an extensive repertory by celebrated choreographers including George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Justin Peck, and Alexei Ratmansky. His career included appearances at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, such as the Kennedy Center Opera House and the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. During off-seasons, Alex frequently returned to CPYB as a guest teacher at the invitation of Marcia Dale Weary, marking the beginning of his professional teaching and coaching career.
In 2022, Alex retired from Miami City Ballet to dedicate himself fully to dancer education. Since then, he has served in a variety of leadership and instructional roles across the United States. His teaching specialties include classical and Balanchine techniques, men’s and variations classes, pointe, pas de deux, and performance coaching. Alex continues to guest teach at respected institutions nationwide, and earned certification from CPYB’s Teacher’s Workshop in 2023.
